Many users have the same question when using an SD card for the first time: after inserting and formatting the SD card, why does the player still show the same internal storage capacity as before?
This is normal and usually does not indicate a problem with the player or SD card. The player’s internal storage and the SD card are two separate storage media. Inserting an SD card does not simply add its capacity to the player’s internal storage.
💡 Quick answer: If you use the SD card to store music, audiobooks, or videos and need to transfer files from a computer, choose “Portable storage.” See Q3 for the difference between the two storage modes.
Q1. Why doesn’t the storage capacity shown on the player change after inserting an SD card?
This is normal. The internal storage and the SD card are two separate storage spaces.
For example, if the player has 32GB of internal storage and you insert a 128GB SD card, the two capacities remain separate and are not simply combined and displayed as 160GB.
Q2. How can I tell whether the SD card has been recognized?
Go to Settings → Storage and check the SD card status. If the SD card and its capacity are displayed, the player has recognized it.
If the SD card is shown as “Portable storage,” you can perform a simple test:
Connect the player to a computer with a USB cable → find the SD card drive → copy 1–2 MP3 files to it → safely eject the player → play the copied files on the player.
If the files play normally, the SD card is working properly.
⚠️ If the SD card does not appear under Settings → Storage, or the player says it cannot detect the SD card, please go to Q4.
Q3. Which should I choose: “Portable storage” or “Internal storage”?
Choose “Portable storage” if you want to transfer music from a computer. It is the recommended option for managing media files on a computer.

Portable storage (Recommended): The SD card appears as a separate drive on your computer, so you can directly copy music, audiobooks, and other files to it.

Internal storage: The SD card is managed by the player’s system and will not appear as a separate SD card drive on a computer.
🔄 Selected the wrong mode? You can switch: Go to Settings → Storage → SD card → Format, then select “Portable storage.” Be sure to back up your data before formatting.
Q4. What should I do if the player cannot read the SD card?
Please check the following:
① Capacity exceeds the supported limit: Make sure the SD card capacity is within the supported range of your player model (for example, up to 128GB).
② Incompatible file system: The player typically supports FAT32 and exFAT. If the file system is not compatible, see Q5 for formatting instructions.
③ SD card is not inserted correctly: Remove the SD card and reinsert it, making sure it is fully inserted into the card slot.
④ The SD card may be faulty: Try another compatible SD card. If the other card is recognized, the original card may be damaged.
Q5. How do I format an SD card?
⚠️ Formatting will erase all data on the SD card. Please back up important files before formatting.
Case 1: The player can recognize the SD card
Go to:
Settings → Storage → SD card → Format → Select “Portable storage”
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Case 2: The player cannot recognize the SD card at all
- Remove the SD card and connect it to a computer using a card reader.
- Find the SD card drive on your computer and right-click it to select “Format.”
- Select FAT32 or exFAT as the file system. If you are unsure, we recommend checking the file system requirements for your specific player model first.
- After formatting, reinsert the SD card into the player and test it again.
Q6. What if the SD card still doesn’t work after trying all of the above?
If you have confirmed that the SD card capacity is within the supported range, the file system is compatible, the SD card has been reinserted correctly, and you have tried formatting it as “Portable storage,” but the player still cannot recognize the SD card, please contact our customer support team:
