At first I thought it was just a regular music player — Android, runs Spotify, small and easy to carry.

Then he said, "Hey, connect to Wi‑Fi and open Spotify."

I did. And there it was — a new playlist he made for me, called "Nia ❤️." I said, "Oh, you picked out some songs?"

He just smiled.

I opened it. First song: Naughty Girl – Beyoncé. Second: All of Me – Bruno Mars. Third: All of Me – Bruno Mars …

Wait. I stared at the screen for a second.

The first letter of every song title spelled out NIA I LOVE YOU.

I froze.

He was standing there, rubbing his hands together nervously. "You… you see it?"

I laughed. And my eyes got a little warm.

This idiot. He spent time picking every single song just to hide that message.

Now this player goes everywhere with me. I take it when I run. I bring it to the library to study. Every time I open Spotify and see that playlist, I smile.
