How do I fast forward or rewind a video on my MP3 player?

First, turn on your Music player. On the home screen, tap MX Player (the pre‑installed video player) and select the video you want to play. Once you are on the playback screen, you can use any of the following methods to control playback progress.

🎬 Method 1: Drag the bottom progress bar for precise seeking

  1. Tap anywhere on the playback screen to bring up the full control bar (the progress bar is at the bottom).
  2. Press and hold the knob on the progress bar, then drag left or right.
  3. Release your finger – the video will jump to the selected time.

👆 Method 2: Tap anywhere on the progress bar for quick jump

  • Action: Directly tap any position on the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • Result: The video jumps immediately to the time you tapped.

⚠️ The progress bar hides automatically after a few seconds. Tap the screen once to show it again, then tap your desired position.

⬅️➡️ Method 3: Swipe left or right on the screen

  • Action: Swipe left on the playback screen to rewind, or right to fast forward.
  • Result: Each swipe jumps about 10 seconds (MX Player default – you can change this in settings).

💡 Advantage: No need to bring up the progress bar – you can do it one‑handed without looking. This is the most popular MX Player gesture. The jump duration can be customized (see Advanced Settings below).

📌 Other useful gestures

  • Double‑tap the center of the screen: Pause / resume playback
  • Pinch or spread two fingers: Zoom in / out – crop black bars to fit the screen
  • Swipe up/down on the left half of the screen: Adjust screen brightness
  • Swipe up/down on the right half of the screen: Adjust playback volume
  • Swipe up/down on the middle area: No action (prevents accidental touches)

⚙️ Advanced customization settings

  1. Change the swipe‑to‑jump duration
    MX Player →
     menu (top right) → Display settings → Navigation → Seek duration (options: 5s / 10s / 15s / 30s)
  2. Playback speed
On the playback screen, tap the top‑right menu → Playback speed – supports 0.25x ~ 4.0x.
  3. Turn off gestures you don't use
Go to MX Player → Display settings → Controls – you can disable any gesture individually (e.g., seek swipes, brightness/volume swipes).

🛠️ Troubleshooting – if gestures or progress bar taps don't work

Check the following steps in order:

  1. Make sure you are using the factory‑preinstalled MX Player – third‑party players have different gesture logic.
  2. Check that gestures are enabled – MX Player → Settings → Gesture controls → confirm that "Left/right swipe gesture" is ON.
  3. Clear cache and restart – Go to System Settings → Apps → MX Player → Clear cache → reopen the video.
  4. Test with a different video file – Some videos with rare codecs may not be fully compatible. Try a standard MP4 file to see if the issue is software‑ or file‑related.
